Chisinau, 19 January /MOLDPRES/-Prime Minister-designate Pavel Filip today held consultations with the Moldovan scientific community to discuss the government action programme and listen to scientists' suggestions.

Attending the meeting was also acting Culture Minister Monica Babuc. Filip said education, science and culture would be priority goals in his government action programme. He added that for the beginning, he planned on taking actions with an immediate effect for the citizens, such as, recalculation of gas tariffs, as well as restoring citizens’ confidence in the police and political class. “I admit that I was surprised by this designation and I am aware of the economic and political situation in the country. I want to stop political dissensions that have blocked more good ideas till now. I want us to build a balanced government. If we receive a vote of confidence, we will take actions. We aim to enhance and implement reforms in the financial-banking system and also settle the political situation. We will also hold negotiations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and foreign partners, as well as try to depoliticize law institutions. I am still convinced that science and innovation fuel a country’s development,” Filip said.

After several rounds of questions, Moldovan scientists said they would participate in the elaboration of the government action programme and will come up with suggestions related to various fields. They also suggested that the prime minister-designate start an audit in the energy sector, once voted as head of government. Moldovan academicians have also asked the Moldovan government to motivate young scientists to stay in Moldova.

Prime Minister-designate Pavel Filip will also hold consultations with representatives of employers’ associations, civil society representatives and Moldova’s development partners.
