Chisinau, 19 May /MOLDPRES/- Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu has met a delegation of European Parliament of the EU-Moldova Association Parliamentary Committee, led by MEP Andi Cristea. They discussed Moldova’s achievements in implementing the Association Agreement with EU and arrears in punctual fields included in the roadmap, the parliament’s communication and media relations department has reported.

Candu appreciated the support and expertise offered to Moldova by the European Parliament in the European integration process. He reiterated the authorities’ determination in implementing the commitments assumed toward the EU and in accordance with the roadmap on priority reform agenda.

“By late July, the parliament is set to adopt the legislation related to the law on prosecution, energy package and remediation of the banking system. Achievements in implementing the Association Agreement and amending the legislative framework have been already recorded, but a parliamentary control over enforcing laws is needed. We do not want to wait until autumn, we want that on 31 July, when the term shown in the roadmap expires we should have a new document, with actions that we have to implement in the second half of the year”, he said.

Other issues were related to the talks with International Monetary Fund, initiatives for amending the Constitution and adopting a new Audiovisual Code, audit of National Agency for Regulation of Energy and the need to consolidate the independence of the National Bank of Moldova.

MEPs welcomed certain achievements recorded by Moldova, encouraging the authorities to fully implement the Association Agreement in order to restore citizens’ trust and improve living standards. At the same time, the officials urged the civil society to more actively get involved in decision making at the level of parliament and government.

Andi Cristea announced that Moldova’s achievements would be considered in Brussels during a meeting due on 26 September.

“Stability is essential for Moldova and is a good prerequisite for implementing reforms”, Cristea said.

The delegation of the European Parliament, made up of MEPs Andi Cristea, Michal Boni, Norica Nicolai and Petras Auštrevičius, pays a visit to Moldova on 18-19 May.
