Candidate of Ravnopravie formation registered as candidate in electoral race for Moldovan president office

Chisinau, 26 September /MOLDPRES/ - The candidate of Ravnopravie (Equality of Rights) formation for the office of Moldovan president, Ina Popenco, today was registered by the Central Electoral Commission in the electoral for the Moldovan president position.
Ina Popenco will be on the fifth position in the ballot paper at the 30 October presidential polls.
According to CEC member Iurie Ciocan, over 900 subscription lists were submitted to the Commission, with about 25,000 signatures collected to back the candidate. “About 20,000 of all signatures have been described as valid and meeting all conditions set by the Electoral Code. At the same time, the initiative group informed CEC that a bank account had not been opened, on grounds that no expenses were born while collecting the signatures,” Ciocan said.
Ciocan noted that “dead persons were found out in the lists presented both by Ina Popenco and other candidates. The Prosecutor General’s Office will be notified in all cases to examine the situations,” Iurie Ciocan added.
Following the candidate’s registration, CEC head Alina Russu said that, “under the legislation, the electoral contender will be able to begin the electoral agitation process only starting from 30 September.”
Attending the CEC meeting, Ina Popenco said that “she expects a difficult electoral campaign, but which will be conducted fairly and transparently.”
So far, CEC has recorded four candidates as candidates for the Moldovan president office: Marian Lupu – on behalf of the Democratic Party (PDM), Mihai Ghimpu – Liberal Party (PL), Iurie Leanca – European People’s Party of Moldova (PPEM) and Andrei Nastase – Dignity and Truth Platform Party (PPDA).
Since the beginning of the electoral period, CEC has registered 24 initiative groups for collecting signatures to back the candidates put up for the Moldovan president post. These candidates must submit the set of documents and the subscription lists with the signatures to support them till 29 September.
