Famous Moldovan scientist, professor paid homage at 70th birthday anniversary

Chisinau, 2 November /MOLDPRES/ - An economist, historian, writer, university professor, corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova (ASM), laureate of the Petre S. Aurelian prize of the Romanian Academy, holder of the Gloria Muncii (Labour Glory) order Dumitru Moldovan today was paid homage at the Academy of Economic Studies (ASEM) on the occasion of his 70th birthday anniversary.

A volume titled „Economia imaginaţiei creative” (Economy of Creative Imagination), signed by Dumitru Moldovan, was launched at the event.   În cadrul evenimentului a fost lansat şi volumul „Economia imaginaţiei creative”, semnat de Dumitru Moldovan.

In his speech, ASEM Rector, academician Grigore Belostecinic said that Dumitru Moldovan was a gifted teacher, a skilful researcher, one of the first involved in  research projects abroad, a promoter of innovation in the education field, as well as a supporter of internationalization of the education system, by bringing professors and grants from the West to ASEM.

“Dumitru Moldovan brought a considerable contribution to everything which means Academy of Economic Studies. His book „Economia imaginaţiei creative” is a pioneer’s work in Moldova and not only,” the ASEM rector noted.    

An honorary member of the Romanian Academy, university professor Sergiu Chirca said that Dumitru Moldovan is a personality with a universal abstract thinking. At the same time, university lecturer, head of the ASEM Economic Thought and Demography Department Elina Benea-Popusoi stressed that Moldovan “is a pioneer promoter of a novel economic concept in Moldova.”    

Dumitru Moldovan was born in the Piatra village, Orhei district, on 2 November 1946. He graduated from the Moldovan State University in 1968. In 1978, he finished the doctoral studies at the Political Economics Department of the Moscow-based Lomonosov University.   

Starting from 1994 till present, Dumitru Moldovan has been acting as dean of the ASEM External Economic Relations Faculty. Moldovan has edited more than 200 scientific and methodological works and is invited to more universities from France, Romania, Lithuania and Belarus.
