Head of Moldovan Democratic Party announces resignation

Chisinau, 10 December /MOLDPRES/ – The chairman of Democratic Party of Moldova (PDM), Marian Lupu, submitted his resignation, but still remains a part of Democratic team. The declaration was made today during the Democratic Party Political Council meeting.

According to PDM’s press service, Marian Lupu said that he would not run again for this position, but intended to get involved in new party development projects.

The new PDM's chairman has to be elected at its congress, which will take place on 24 December 2016.

According to cited source, another topic discussed at the Political Council was the PDM need to go through a long process of political modernization, so that "for elections in 2018 to become the leading party in the Republic of Moldova."

Previously, Marian Lupu was the party candidate for presidency office position of Moldova. But he abandoned the race, announcing his support for pro-European candidate Maia Sandu.

Marian Lupu held the position of PDM Chairman in 2009, shortly after he left Communists’ party.
