Moldovan electoral body's former head appointed director of centre for reforms implementation

Chisinau, 25 January /MOLDPRES/ - The government today appointed the former head of the Central Electoral Commission (CEC), Iurie Ciocan, as director of the Centre for Reforms’ Implementation. Presently, Ciocan is a CEC member.   

Iurie Ciocan graduated from the Moldovan Technical University (UTM) and the Law Faculty of the State University of Moldova (USM). Starting from 1999, Ciocan worked as university lecturer at the Academy of Public Administration under the Moldovan Government. Beginning with 2003 till 2005, Iurie Ciocan was member of the Central Electoral Commission; starting from 2005 till 2011 – secretary of CEC, and beginning with 2011 till 2016, Ciocan acted as head of Moldova’s Central Electoral Commission. 

”Iurie Ciocan has a rich experience in implementing diverse international projects. He also has managerial abilities, proved in the offices held till present and which, I am sure, will allow him cope with the goals set for the institution he is going to lead,” Prime Minister Pavel Filip said.    

On 18 January 2017, the cabinet approved a decision on the creation of the Centre for Reforms’ Implementation, in order to achieve the objectives of the government’s action programme and implement the strategy of public administration reform for 2016-2020, as well as optimize the reforms’ implementation process.

According to the status of the new institution, the founder of which will be the State Chancellery, the Centre has the goal to ensure an efficient and coordinated implementation of reforms at the government’s level, creation of a modern and efficient administration system, assessing the degree of reforms’ implementation by the public authorities and organizational structures in the sector within their  competence.
