Chisinau hosts regional forum of International Telecommunication Union

Chisinau, 29 March /MOLDPRES/- Delegates from 12 countries have gathered in Chisinau at a regional forum of International Telecommunication Union (ITU) for Europe and CIS. The event is hosted by the Information Technology and Communication Ministry on 28-29 March. Its agenda is focused on IT innovative capacity.
“Moldova has a special attitude towards ICT sector, which shows the interest and potential of development of this field. More relevant achievements in this regard, including with the support of development partners show that our country meets its obligations to the ITU”, Deputy Information Technology and Communication Minister Vitalie Tarlev said.
For his part, deputy head of the ITU Telecommunication Development Bureau Yushi Torigoe noted that Moldova was one of the most active members of ITU in the region, which was confirmed by organizing the forum. “The event will facilitate help the countries in the region by creating IT parks, developing innovation ecosystem, settling many problems in the field”, he said.
At the same time, UNDP Deputy Resident Representative for Moldova Stefan Liller pointed out that the sustainable development goals assumed by United Nations globally till 2030 could be carried out only as a result of “drawing innovation and investment, creating partnerships targeted to the ICT sector and new technologies underlying all development goals”.
The forum brought together representatives of administrations in communications and decision makers, telecommunication operators, equipment manufacturers, software developers, delegates from academia, civil society, development and funding agencies in Europe and CIS.
