Modern laboratory for detecting infections transmissible through blood to be created in Moldova

Chisinau, 6 April /MOLDPRES/ - A modern laboratory for detecting infections transmissible through blood will be created in Moldova. The action fits into a project titled, Strengthening Blood Transfusion Security in Moldova for 2017-2021, launched by the Health Ministry and the National Blood Transfusion Centre today. 

The blood products collected in Moldovan districts will be tested at this laboratory. “Also, the project provides for the endowment of the country’s transfusion centres with modern and safe medical devices for collecting blood. Proper rooms for preservation of blood products will be created. Also, a working group will be set up which will revise and modernize the automated information system of the National Blood Transfusion Centre,” Health Minister Ruxanda Glavan said.    

For his part, the director of the National Blood Transfusion Centre, Svetlana Cebotari, said that the blood testing process would be automated and human errors would be excluded doe to this. “At the same time, the medical staff of the transfusion centres and medical institutions will be trained to make blood transfusions in safe conditions. Due to this measure, we will be able to provide patients with safe blood products,” Cebotari noted.   

Within the project, the Red Cross organization from Switzerland will provide technical and financial support worth about 16 million lei, in order to carry out the measures planned.

The project will be implemented based on an agreement signed between the Health Ministry, National Blood Transfusion Centre and Red Cross organization from Switzerland. The first stage of the project was implemented in 2014-2016, during which the National Blood Transfusion Centre was modernized.
