Chisinau, 12 April /MOLDPRES/- Nine former Liberal Democrats have formed the Group of the European People's Party. The leader of the European People’s Party of Moldova (PPEM), Iurie Leanca, made the statement today.

Leanca said that the group would be led by former Liberal Democrat Valeriu Ghiletchi. “We aim to strengthen the political right. This group will include several MPs who have been so far independent. It is about Valeriu Ghileţchi, Ştefan Creangă, George Mocanu, Aliona Goţa, Octavian Grama, Mihaela Spătaru, Simion Grişciuc, Eugen Carpov and Iurie Leancă. Other colleagues supporting the European integration of the country can join this group. At the same time, the platform will work closely with PPEM”, he said.

For his part, Ghiletchi noted that the group’s creation goal was more effective cooperation in parliament of independent MPs. “We will promote our common vision in the pro-European integration path”, he said.

Also, Ghiletchi pointed out that the group members would discuss the draft law on amending the Electoral Code and transition to the uninominal voting system of MPs and subsequently the platform's position on the matter would be made public.
