Chisinau, 26 April /MOLDPRES/ – Prime Minister Pavel Filip asked at today Government’s meeting the ministers of the Finance, Internal Affairs, Transports and Road Infrastructure to come up within a week with proposals on the legalizing and improving the taxi services. It stands installation of tax meters, technical verification of vehicles and drivers’ qualification.

Following the meeting of 25 April on combating illegal transport, the Premier said that "those who proved "solidarity" during the recent hazard weather were taxi drivers who asked from the people arriving from Airport 300-500 lei per each. People did not have that money, so many were stuck in the airport."

The illicit passenger and cargo transport is a problem for road and traffic safety. "If the freight is unauthorized, it means we do not know its condition, and the state budget is affected because the accounting is not kept. There is unfair competition, because these carriers have other tariffs and put those legal agents in a difficult situation," said the Prime Minister.

"There is no further example than in Bucharest, where the passenger comes up with a digital card and goes by taxi. It might be similar in Chisinau," said Prime Minister Filip, appealing to the airport administration.

The solutions for combating the illicit transportation of passengers and goods were discussed at a Government working meeting on Tuesday, headed by Prime Minister Pavel Filip.

In this context, Pavel Filip mentioned the importance of applying international mechanisms for identifying authorized transport such as awarding yellow license plates for authorized transport, imposing more rigid sanctions for illegal entrepreneurship, establishing transparent field regulations, so that not to be administrative barriers to legalize business.
