Over 2,000 representatives of law enforcement bodies intervened to liquidate consequences of bad weather

Chisinau, 27 April /MOLDPRES/- Over 2,000 carabineers, National Army soldiers, rescuers, firefighters and specialists carry out today and tomorrow in Chisinau works of cleaning the trees, which are likely to fall or have been destroyed by the bad weather of the past days.

The press officer of the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service, Liliana Puscasu, said that the works started at 5:00 am. “Those involved are deployed in 25 sectors. During two days, the specialists will cut down the branches which can fall and will clean the streets. Cleaning work will be done throughout the day. However, between 16:30 and 19:00 hours the work will stop in order not to make it difficult to drive vehicles. The specialists will resume their work at 19:00 till 22:00” Puscasu said.

Five tree collection points have been set, in most cases it is about stadiums. The city hall has previously noted that the wood will be distributed to the beneficiaries of housing heating.

Prime Minister Pavel Filip announced yesterday mobilization of all forces to remove the consequences of the bad weather in Chisinau. “There will be formed four working teams for each sector of the city, organized on the basis of Chisinau police sectors and led by their heads. Each team will be provided with two professionals with motorcycle, two dumpers, special clothes and food, and will work in its range, so that each place in the city should be brought into order”, Filip said.

At the same time, the premier urged citizens to be careful around the trees, as there is a risk of collapse. “I urge the citizens to refrain from car trips through Chisinau. I ask that the drivers who parked the cars in the courtyard be receptive to appeals of police, when necessary to take the vehicles in order to cut the trees. We will try to make the most of our efforts to clean up the city. If we do not succeed during two days, we will extend the period”, he said.

Also, the press service of the city hall noted that nearly 2,400 workers work to eliminate the consequences of natural disaster. At the same time, several transport units were contracted additionally, and during the day, specialized teams from Moldsilva Agency, Apa-Canal Chisinau and Termoelectrica company and employees of city hall subdivisions and more economic agents will be involved in the works.

According to data by the city hall, over 150 apartments, 43 educational institutions were affected by the bad weather, and over 10,000 trees and about 100 pillars have fallen, affecting electricity lines.

According to the Chisinau city hall, the damage caused by natural disaster is about 50-70 million lei. At the same time, 11.7 million lei were allocated from the reserve fund for the liquidation of the consequences of natural disasters.
