More events held in Moldova on World Blood Donor Day

Chisinau, 14 June /MOLDPRES/ – The World Blood Donor Day is marked in Moldova today by organizing more social events entitled: “How can you help? Donate blood! Donate now! Donate systematically!”  

These actions’ purpose is to raise awareness of the importance of voluntary, unpaid and constant blood donation. Also, the actions are aimed at forming sustainable partnerships with local public authorities, non-governmental organizations and community representatives in support of the effort to promote blood donation.

The events will be held throughout Moldova during the day. Thus, several activities will be organized in Chisinau at National Palace "Nicolae Sulac", two shopping centres and Local authority office, Ciocana sector. At the same time, citizens of Balti municipality can donate blood in the National Blood Transfusion Centre and theatre "Vasile Alecsandri". Similarly, in Cahul city people can donate blood to the National Blood Transfusion Centre.

Also, on the occasion of the World Blood Donor Day, National Army contingents and students of the Military Academy of the Armed Forces "Alexandru cel Bun" will participate in voluntary blood donation.

According to the National blood transfusion centre’s data, in Moldova the hemotransfusion needs are fully covered, being collected annually from about 80 thousand donations that provide assistance to over 130 thousand patients. Similarly, 80 per cent of donations are provided by volunteer donors. Thus, the Health Ministry aims to increase the number of voluntary donations yearly by minimum five per cent. The voluntary blood donations’ number has increased threefold, compared to 2007.
