Chisinau, 26 June /MOLDPRES/ – Over 180 trees in Chisinau were brought down by the storm on 24 June. The announcement was made by the director of Association “Spatii Verzi” (Green Spaces), Eliferiu Haruta, during a weekly meeting of the Chisinau city hall today.

According to Haruta, about 20 cars were damaged and about 60 streets were blocked. “The most affected were streets Gheorghe Asachi, Teilor, Grigore Ureche, Alexandr Pushkin, Mihail Kogalniceanu, Uzinelor, Hincesti and Muncesti, where the trees fell on the carriageway or affected the electricity transmission company’s contact network. Thus, the circulation of the transport, including 38 trolleybuses, was stopped for several hours,” said Haruta.

According to local authorities, until now, all streets in Chisinau have been unblocked, and public transport resumed its normal operation. “We worked on weekend days, and during this week we will work on the evacuation of the branches,” said Eliferiu Haruta.

Also, as a result of the weather disaster from the end of last week, two children lost their lives after they trampled on the electric wires, and a third one was hospitalized with burns.
