Moldovan plastic artist marks 70th anniversary

Chisinau, 29 June /MOLDPRES/ – Plastic painter Lica Sainciuc, architect, graphic designer and art historian holding the Order of Honour, celebrates his 70th anniversary today.

He was born on 29 June 1947 in Chisinau city, in the family of plastic artists Valentina Rusu-Ciobanu and Glebus Sainciuc. In 1971, Lica Sainciuc graduated from the Faculty of Architecture of the Polytechnic Institute of Chisinau (today – Technical University of Moldova (UTM)). He has worked in the field of easel painting and theatrical-decorative art since 1972.

He produced scenography for "Ivan Turbinca", Republican Doll Theater "Licurici", then scenography for "This distant childhood", "Luceafărul" Theater, a play signed by Serafim Saka, inspired by creation of Ion Creanga, "Iorgu from Sadagura" by Vasile Alecsandri, "The Birds of Our Youth" by Ion Druta, both mounted at Theater "Vasile Alecsandri" in Balti. He also signed the scenography for several films.

Lica Sainciuc is the author of book "The Three Bears Story" (2008, adaptation after Robert Southey's work), "Chisinau at the time of Pushkin with 333 intersections by Lica Sainciuc" (2011), "Encyclopedia P. Guitz" (2014) "Hidden Chisinau or an attempt to resuscitate the memory of a city" (2014), "Cinderella" (2015, adaptation), "Little Red Riding Hood" (2015, adaptation), etc.

He illustrated over 100 books signed by Grigore Vieru, Spiridon Vangheli, Petru Carare, Ion Creanga, Constantin Dragomir, etc., including the first Latin grammar after 1989.

Lica Sainciuc was awarded with several awards in various editions of the International Book Fair for Children and Youth: "The Book of the Year" Award for the "Encyclopedia of P. Guitz" (2007), "Igor Vieru" Prize for the whole Illustration Book for children (2010), the Union of Fine Artists of Moldova for the best graphic presentation of book "Snail, little snail" (2011). In 2010, painter Lica Sainciuc was awarded the "Order of Honour".
