Chisinau, 21 July /MOLDPRES/ - The parliament today adopted a Declaration on the withdrawal of the Russian military forces from the territory of Moldova.

The declaration was backed by the Democratic Party of Moldova, Liberal Party, Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova and the group of the European People’s Party of Moldova. At the same time, the parliamentary faction of the Socialists walked out of the session hall, after most MPs had not accepted the postponing of the declaration’s introduction on the agenda.

The document reads that the continuous deployment of Russia’s troops and strengthening their military presence in the eastern region of Moldova represent infringements of the constitutional provisions, especially as regards the independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity and permanent neutrality of Moldova, as well as of the international law.

According to the declaration, mediators and observers in the process of Transnistrian conflict settlement are invited to initiate political discussions on turning the present peacekeeping mechanism into a civilian mission with international mandate.

Also, in the declaration, the parliament appeals to Russia to resume and finish the process of withdrawal of its troops, as well as to withdraw its ammunitions, weapons and military equipment from Moldova’s territory, in line with the relevant principles of the international law and its international commitments.

The declaration enters into force on the date of approval and is published in Moldova’s Official Journal.

The 25th anniversary of the ceasing of the war on Dniester and the signing of the ceasefire agreement on the principles of peaceful settlement of the war from Moldova’s Transnistrian region is marked today. The agreement sees, inter alia, the withdrawal of the Russian army from Moldova’s territory.
