Chisinau, 3 August /MOLDPRES/ - Two Moldovans, husband and wife, who attempted to sell their only 12-days-old baby to a woman from Germany, have been sentenced to 17 and 15 years of imprisonment. At the same time, the woman who bought the baby and tried to take her across the border was sentenced to 18 years of imprisonment.

The press service of the Prosecutor General’s Office today said that all the three persons would serve the punishment in a closed prison. At the same time, the sentence will be applied after the final ruling is pronounced; till then, the persons will be under arrest.

The decision can be appealed at the Court of Appeal.

The concerned case took place in last February. According to prosecutors, the parents of the girl, with residence in the Balti municipality, in late 2016 started negotiations with a citizen of Germany, intending to sell her the child who was to be born.

After the plan had been brought into force, the citizen of Germany was detained by employees of the border police at the exit from Moldova at the Leuseni border checkpoint, at the moment when she tried to take the baby out of Moldova.
