European Union Anti-Trafficking Day marked in Moldova's capital

Chisinau, 18 October /MOLDPRES/ - In the context of marking the European Union Anti-Trafficking Day, an information campaign titled, ”Invizibili printre noi” (Invisible among Us), launched in Moldova on 28 March 2017, was held in Chisinau today. The event is organized by the standing secretariat of the national committee on fighting the trafficking of human beings at the State Chancellery, in partnership with the mission of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the Chisinau municipal commission for fighting the trafficking of human beings, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.   

The goal of the campaign is to raise the awareness and inform the society about the risks and consequences of the trafficking of human beings phenomenon, with emphasis put on certain risk groups, among whom street children, the ones who remained without parental care, orphans, young graduates of residential institutions, victims of the domestic violence, disabled people, elderly persons.    

Messages are conveyed through ten human figures, on which true stories of victims, Moldovan citizens, are put down. The figures will be set in the centre of Chisinau on 18-25 October. The stories written in the Romanian, Russian, Gagauz, Ukrainian and Romany languages symbolize the fate of thousands of victims of the trafficking of human beings (TFU), which many times remain unseen.   

Also, a workshop was held, the participants in which discussed subjects on ensuring the functionality of the inter-institutional mechanism of assistance, protection of TFU victims and prevention of TFU cases in the Chisinau municipality.   

Attending the event were specialists of the central and local public administration, representatives of the Chisinau city’s administration, development partners, diplomatic missions and civil society.  

Starting from 2012, Moldova has been marking the European Union Anti-Trafficking Day on 18 October.
