CET-Nord joint stock company of Moldova announces tender for installation of electricity storage system at Balti-based combined heat and power plant

The Joint Stock Company CET-Nord has announced a tender for the installation of a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) with a capacity of 70 MW at the combined heat and power plant of Balti. The tender aims to select a private partner who will ensure full financing and implementation of the project, including the design, construction, installation and commissioning of the system.

According to the Energy Ministry, CET-Nord holds a grid connection permit issued by the Moldelectrica State Enterprise, which allows the future storage system to be connected to the national network.

“This initiative is part of Moldova’s ongoing efforts to develop storage infrastructure, which is essential for the efficient integration of renewable energy sources, covering peak-hour consumption and enhancing the resilience of the energy system. Storage systems allow energy to be accumulated during periods of surplus production and used during peak hours, thus contributing to grid stability and more efficient use of green energy,” the institution said.

The Energy Ministry also emphasizes that the state maintains its role as a facilitator of strategic investments, while the technical and financial implementation is ensured by the selected partner. The procedure is open and competitive, based on transparency and technical-financial criteria.

These actions are part of a broader effort by the authorities to strengthen national energy storage capacities. In late last April, in the locality of Radeni, the largest electricity storage system Moldova was launched, with a total capacity of 60 MWh, integrated with a 50 MW photovoltaic park. This project represents an important step in developing the country’s new energy architecture, contributing to balancing the power system and optimizing the load curve.

Through such investments, Moldova is strengthening its ability to manage more efficiently the energy produced from renewable sources and to ensure a more stable, modern and sustainable energy system.
