Moldovan deputy PM in Davos says authorities aim to strengthen Moldova’s position as regional leader in digital governance

Moldova has achieved significant progress in the field of digitalization and the authorities aim to further accelerate innovation, harness new technologies and strengthen the country’s position as a regional leader in digital governance. Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization Eugeniu Osmochescu has made statements to this effect at the GovTech panel at the Estonia Davos House: GovTech at Scale: Governing the AI Era, Not Just Digitizing the Past.

“For Moldova, GovTech is an established reality, developed in close cooperation with all public institutions. We are a highly advanced government in terms of digital transformation, with a complex and mature digital infrastructure that supports modern and efficient services for citizens and the business community,” said Eugeniu Osmochescu.

The official noted that efforts in the field of digitalization would continue, in order to accelerate innovation, capitalize on new technologies and consolidate  Moldova’s position as a regional leader in digital governance.

Deputy Prime Minister Eugeniu Osmochescu also referred to the role of artificial intelligence in this context. “Artificial intelligence accelerates GovTech. Moldova already has the necessary foundation: a strong ICT sector, qualified human capital, modernized government platforms and centralized access to data through the EVO application (the national digital services platform),” the official said.

According to him, GovTech at scale means shared platforms (digital identity, payments, notifications, core registries); interoperability and data security; and IT as critical public infrastructure, similar to roads or energy.

“It is important not only to be part of technological trends, but also to create them here in Moldova. That is why, our priorities include rapid technological advancement and the growth of the IT sector,” concluded Deputy Prime Minister Eugeniu Osmochescu.

According to statistics data, about 75 percent of public services meant for companies are digitalized. This means that entrepreneurs can access most of the services they need in digital format, from scheduling appointments and getting  permits to submitting and receiving documents, saving time and money by eliminating unnecessary trips to physical counters.
