Moldovan PM says government advocates for strong economy
The authorities aim to create a simpler tax system that ensures fairness, transparency, and encourages investment, Through the draft tax policy for 2027. Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu today made statements to this effect at the beginning of the government meeting, shortly after the Finance Ministry had submitted the draft tax policy for next year for public consultations.
"We must ensure that Moldova moves forward and that we honor our commitments. That is why, we are launching consultations on tax reform. I know it is difficult, I know it is not clear for many people, but what we actually want is a simpler system. In my opinion everything that is simpler generally works better. It should also be a more transparent, fairer system, one that stimulates work and investment," said Alexandru Munteanu.
The official emphasized that the draft is to be examined during consultations with the business community, non-governmental organizations and international partners.
"We advocate for a strong economy and such an economy is not built in one day. We must do many things and we continue to work towards this goal," concluded Alexandru Munteanu.
The draft tax policy for 2027 was presented for public consultations today. Finance Minister Andrian Gavrilita unveiled the main provisions of the draft. He stressed that the goal of the proposed changes was for every working citizen to earn more, and for every entrepreneur to be able to invest easily, conveniently and competitively here at home.
The draft will be subject to public consultations until June 19, 2026. The proposals and recommendations of interested sides will be examined and taken into account in the process of finalizing the document.
The 2027 tax policy is to be implemented in three stages: October 2026 – food products, public catering, e-commerce; January 2027 – medicines, motor vehicles, accommodation; April 2027 – energy resources. The new Tax Code is to be drafted over 2026–2027 and is expected to be promoted in 2028.
