The Infrastructure and Regional Development Ministry (MIDR) has announced the successful completion of the first test of the rail connection between Chisinau Railway Station and the Chisinau-based Eugen Doga International Airport (AIC), via Revaca station. This initiative aims to optimize travel time for passengers and ease traffic congestion in the capital, by using the existing rail infrastructure.
During the testing exercise, passengers on the international Kyiv–Chisinau route were transported by train to Revaca station, located in the immediate vicinity of the airport. From there, they were picked up by special shuttle buses and transferred directly to the passenger terminal.
According to the data collected, the travel time between the Chisinau Railway Station and the International Airport was approximately 15 minutes. This duration represents a significant shortening compared to regular road transport, eliminating the risk of delays caused by urban traffic jams, especially during peak hours.
The test was carried out in the presence of Infrastructure and Regional Development Minister, Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Bolea, along with the management of the Railway of Moldova enterprise (CFM), representatives of the Eugen Doga International Airport and the National Roads' Administration.
The authorities said that the final decision on introducing this route on a permanent basis would be taken after a thorough analysis of the technical results and the feedback provided by the passengers who took part in the test. In parallel, specialists are considering solutions for developing other similar connections, with the aim of making the most of the national rail network for the benefit of passenger transport.
