Seven more ineffective agreements signed on CIS platform denounced by Government
Government has approved the denunciation of seven agreements signed with the countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). One of them, signed in 1992 in Bishkek, allowed visa-free travel for CIS citizens within the member states' territories.
"The decision changes nothing for our citizens and the citizens of the CIS states. The Republic of Moldova has signed bilateral agreements with almost all the countries in the Commonwealth of Independent States, and travel takes place under these agreements. The changes will only affect Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan, which do not have such agreements with our country," Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popșoi said.
It should be noted that the Russian Federation denounced this agreement back in 2000, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan in 2001, and Turkmenistan renounced the agreement in 1999.
In addition to the visa-free travel agreement, the government also denounced other agreements that are no longer relevant, such as those on cooperation in chemistry and petrochemistry, ecology, and the use of compressed natural gas as fuel for motor vehicle transport.
Moreover, our country is renouncing the agreement that establishes the principles of indirect taxation at export and import between the member states of the CIS, as well as the agreement on measures to ensure the improvement of settlements between the economic organizations of the member countries. Another denounced agreement refers to the principles and order of carrying out military transports, signed in Tashkent on 15 May 1992.
"These agreements do not benefit the citizens of the Republic of Moldova - some of them did not function, others have already been denounced by the founders," said the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
So far, the Republic of Moldova has denounced, in total, 64 agreements signed under the Commonwealth of Independent States that were either irrelevant or did not benefit the citizens.
