Members of European Parliament's Committee on Security and Defense on visit to Moldova's parliament

The parliament has hosted a visit by a delegation from the European Parliament's Committee on Security and Defense, led by its president, Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann. The MEPs had discussions with the Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu and the head of the national security, defense, and public order committee, Lilian Carp.

The main purpose of the visit was to assess the implementation of the EU-Moldova Security and Defense Partnership and the policies of the Moldovan authorities concerning the country's security and defense institutions.

The officials also discussed the consequences of the Russian Federation's war in Ukraine, as well as the hybrid warfare which affects Moldova. In the context, Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu expressed appreciation for the support and assistance provided by EU in strengthening state’s capacities, including through the EU's Partnership Mission in Moldova.

The discussions with the head of the National Security, Defense, and Public Order Committee, Lilian Carp, focused on regional security and the process of settling the Transnistrian conflict.

The delegation of the European Parliament's Committee on Security and Defense is on visit to Moldova on April 14-16. The visit's agenda also includes meetings with President Maia Sandu, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popsoi, Minister of Defense Anatolie Nosatii, and the head of the Information and Security Service, Alexandru Musteata.
