President's message at Government inauguration ceremony
Dear Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu,
Honorable members of the Government,
I begin by thanking you for taking on this responsibility during a challenging period - for our country and the whole region as well.
You are embarking on a journey primarily with the responsibility to meet the high and rightfully justified expectations of people.
After years of having to manage multiple crises and challenges, we need, starting today, governance that focuses more on development, one that completes the transformation of the Republic of Moldova into a modern European state.
Therefore, it is essential that in the upcoming period, you direct your efforts towards improving governance across all domains - by promoting efficiency and integrity, as well as by enhancing the quality of policies and public services.
Additionally, there is a need to continue strengthening resilience - primarily in state institutions, as well as in our society as a whole. Only this way will we continue to face the risks and threats confronting our country.
We need courageous measures to ensure economic development by attracting investments, increasing competitiveness, and productivity - as this is the only way to improve the people's standard of living.
All these objectives can only be achieved if we harness the historic window of opportunity offered by European integration. It's a path that in the coming years will demand even more perseverance - but also much more efficient organization and collaboration among institutions.
We all need to get involved even more than before - with ambition, patience and discipline. I know the workload is unprecedented for the Republic of Moldova, and I know that often people do not see this workload related to our EU accession process.
But everything that is good and lasting is built this way - brick by brick.
To progress towards accession and to thrive after accession, it is necessary to complete important reforms that have already been initiated:
Justice reform - so that all Moldovans feel that finally justice is done and the law is the same for everyone.
Ensuring energy security - crucial for citizens and business environment.
Education reform - so that new generations are competitive, capable of coping with technological transformations and economy of the future.
Administrative-territorial reform - so that local authorities can leverage European funds for local development.
In parallel, programs that are already transforming our localities must continue: afforestation, waste management, investments in infrastructure, schools, hospitals and roads. They contribute to increasing the quality of life and modernizing our villages and cities.
Only this way will people regain their belief that it is worth building their future at home, in the Republic of Moldova - that they have prospects, security and hope here.
Before concluding, I want to convey a message of gratitude to the governmental team that completed its mandate - the Government led by Dorin Recean.
It was a Government that maintained peace, defended democracy and citizen safety, carried out important development programs for the country and localities, and made history by passing the referendum on the European integration of the Republic of Moldova. I know the efforts and sacrifices behind these achievements.
I thank all the colleagues from the departing Cabinet:
to Mr. Dorin Recean - I am grateful for taking responsibility for governance and for the country during a very complicated period and for demonstrating to be an excellent crisis manager.
I thank Ministers Ala Nemerenco, Sergiu Prodan, Veronica Mihailov-Moraru, Sergiu Lazarencu, Victoria Belous, Doina Nistor, Roman Roșca and I wish them success in everything they will do.
Dear Prime Minister,
Honorable members of the Government,
In front of you is a country that needs trust and results.
I wish you the strength to work, wisdom in decisions and unity in action.
May you have success in everything you do for the good of the Republic of Moldova and people.
