New measures to support families in Moldova
5 November 2025, Chișinău - Paternal leave for fathers of twins or triplets will consist of 15 days for each newborn child. Additionally, the 15-day period for each newborn or adopted child can be used in three equal parts during the first year from the birth or adoption of the child. The government has approved the amendments to apply the provisions.
The amendments complement the decision that starting 1 July 2025 Moldovan fathers of twins, triplets or more children born from a single pregnancy, as well as adopted children are entitled to paternal benefits for each child individually.
Minister of Labor and Social Protection Natalia Plugaru mentioned that the measure is a continuation of those previously implemented by the government to support families with children. "In recent years, we have managed to double the number of fathers taking paternal leave. All these measures aim to support the balance between professional and family life, as well as the active involvement of fathers in raising and caring for children," Plugaru said.
In recent years, the one-off childbirth benefit has increased to 21,350 lei, and a universal monthly allowance for child care up to the age of 2, amounting to 1,000 lei, has been introduced. Dozens of new nursery groups have also been created.
