President met with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece
President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu had a meeting today with Alexandra Papadopoulou, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Hellenic Republic, who is paying a working visit to Chișinău.
In the second half of 2027, Greece will hold the Presidency of the Council of the European Union. The Head of State expressed confidence that this period will represent an opportunity for the European path of the Republic of Moldova and emphasized the shared commitment to translate the increasingly dynamic political dialogue between the two countries into concrete cooperation in support of the accession process.
Maia Sandu presented the progress achieved by the Republic of Moldova in implementing reforms and welcomed the opening of accession negotiations on the first cluster of chapters. In this context, the Head of State appreciated Greece’s consistent support for Moldova’s European integration. In December 2025, in Athens, the Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis reaffirmed this commitment, stressing that the enlargement of the European Union — which includes the Republic of Moldova, Ukraine and the Western Balkan states — is a strategic priority for Greece.
The discussions also focused on deepening practical cooperation between the two states in areas such as infrastructure development, energy projects, tourism and investment promotion. At the same time, the Head of State highlighted Greece’s important role in strengthening Europe’s energy security and in developing regional transport routes.
