PAS National Political Council approved Vasile Tofan’s candidacy for position of Prime Minister

The National Political Council of the Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) approved this evening, with 162 votes, the candidacy of Vasile Tofan for the position of Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova.

In a post, the party stated that it supports the need to form a Government that is “strong, competent and determined” to continue the reforms already launched, to strengthen state institutions, and to accelerate the European path of the Republic of Moldova.

“European Union integration remains our national project and the commitment we have made to citizens. We will continue to work with the same sense of responsibility for a European, safe and prosperous Moldova,” the party’s message reads.

PAS conveyed its best wishes for success to Vasile Tofan and the future government team.

This afternoon, PAS leader Igor Grosu announced that the party’s parliamentary faction will propose Vasile Tofan at the consultations convened by the President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, for nominating the candidate for the position of Prime Minister. According to Grosu, Tofan presented within the faction a vision and a plan for the activity of the future Government, focused on European integration, consolidation of state institutions and economic development.

Vasile Tofan accepted the candidacy, stating that his objectives are aligned with the priorities set by the head of state and by PAS, among them the signing of the Accession Treaty to the European Union in 2028, improving the efficiency of institutions and increasing the population’s well-being.

Vasile Tofan has experience in business, investment and management, having worked both in the Republic of Moldova and abroad. According to PAS, he has contributed to the development of several companies and to attracting investments that have supported job creation and economic development.

The nomination of a candidate for the position of Prime Minister comes after the resignation of Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu. According to the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova, after the resignation of the Prime Minister, the Government performs only the duties of managing public affairs until a new Executive is invested.
