President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu met today with a bipartisan delegation of the United States Congress, visiting Chisinau as part of House Democracy Partnership—a commission of the House of Representatives that supports young democracies in strengthening parliamentary institutions through the exchange of experiences and technical cooperation.

The delegation consists of four Republican and four Democratic congressmen, including two members of Moldova Caucus, which supports deepening Moldovan-American relations.

The visit of the delegation, led by Congressman Vern Buchanan, reaffirms the bipartisan support that the Republic of Moldova enjoys in the United States and the fact that the Moldovan-American partnership is on the American agenda. Maia Sandu expressed gratitude for the consistent support provided by the US over the past three decades—support that has contributed to the modernization of the state, increased energy resilience, and the defense of sovereignty against external destabilization attempts.

The head of state highlighted the risks generated by the hybrid attacks of the Russian Federation—including attempts to influence the electoral process—and emphasized the essential role of the Republic of Moldova in maintaining regional stability along the 1,222 km border with Ukraine, invaded by Russia.

In this context, the President stressed the importance of maintaining American support, especially in the energy security in the Republic of Moldova.

The US Congress delegation included eight members of the House of Representatives: Vern Buchanan (Republican, Florida), Neal Dunn (Republican, Florida), Andy Ogles (Republican, Tennessee), Anna Paulina Luna (Republican, Florida), Dina Titus (Democrat, Nevada), Ilhan Omar (Democrat, Minnesota), Lloyd Doggett (Democrat, Texas) and Ted Lieu (Democrat, California).
