Prime Minister and European Commissioner for Enlargement discuss reforms and EU support for Moldova
The commitment of the new Government to continue reforms and to advance at an accelerated pace on the European path, as well as the strong support of the European Union for the Republic of Moldova's accession process to the EU were highlighted today at a meeting between Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu and Marta Kos, European Commissioner for Enlargement.
The officials discussed the latest report of the European Commission, which shows that Moldova has made the greatest leap in readiness for EU accession. Good results are recorded in several areas, including justice, energy, education, digitalization, and regional development.
“The progress we have made on our European path motivates us to continue working at an even faster pace. Our home is Europe, and we are bringing Europe home. The goal is to complete negotiations and sign the Accession Treaty in 2028,” he said, noting that justice reform and the fight against corruption remain immediate priorities.
Marta Kos reiterated support for our country on its path to the EU: “The recent parliamentary elections have reaffirmed once again the unyielding European aspiration of the Republic of Moldova. You are a model of resilience in protecting democracy, and you have our full support. We are a team, and we will continue to work together to advance on the European path.”
The officials referred to the implementation of the Growth Plan for Moldova, highlighting the strict monitoring and control system that is being applied. Also mentioned were the benefits of the recent accession of the Republic of Moldova to the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA) and, starting January 1, 2026 – to the EU's Roam Like at Home area.
The European Commissioner for Enlargement is visiting the Republic of Moldova for the fourth time in the past year. Today Marta Kos and Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu, along with other officials and civil society representatives, are participating in the Conference “2025 Enlargement Report: Progress and Future Priorities for the Republic of Moldova.”
