The importance of strengthening efforts to combat corruption, including in the context of pursuing the European agenda of Moldova today was emphasized by Prime Minister Dorin Recean at the meeting of the Anti-Corruption Platform. The PM highlighted the need to practically apply two key priorities: closer and more active cooperation between institutions and the assumption by each authority of its respective role.

“The fight against corruption is not a bureaucratic exercise and any unjustified delay, blockage or shirking of responsibility means a slowdown in the fight against corruption. This can no longer be tolerated by society. Everyone must fulfill their responsibilities - we need to strengthen efforts, coordination, courage and commitment,” the prime minister said.

The PM also referred to the documents which show the country's commitments on the European integration path - the Roadmap on the Rule of Law, the Growth Plan for Moldova, the National Program for EU Accession, and the De-oligarchization Plan: “These are strategic documents that need to be transformed into concrete actions expected by the citizens. Compliance with the law is a priority for the success and sustainability of all reforms. The EU has developed a successful model in ensuring peace, security and prosperity and we replicate this model at home.”

Another topic addressed relates to combating electoral corruption and attempts to undermine democratic processes in Moldova. In the context, the PM called for unity, emphasizing that the issue of corruption is a responsibility of all institutions and a vulnerability that harms the entire society and national security.

“The role of state institutions is to stop this serious and destructive phenomenon. We have a choice - either we risk losing this historic opportunity, or we succeed in acting together and showing citizens that we can build a healthy society, based on the rule of law,” the prime minister emphasized.
