European Commissioner for Enlargement expected in Chisinau, to advance EU accession reforms, boost investments; visit's agenda

European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos will pay an official visit to Moldova on June 4-5, in order to support the country’s efforts to join the European Union. The agenda of the talks focuses on the state’s progress in implementing reforms and on encouraging additional investment ahead of the second EU–Moldova Summit, scheduled to take place in Brussels on June 22.

On June 4, Commissioner Kos will meet President Maia Sandu, to discuss EU accession reforms, particularly in the justice sector, as well as domestic developments and the regional security situation. The meeting will be followed by a joint press conference at 12:00.

The Commissioner will also attend a working lunch with Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu and government members, focused on the implementation of the EU Growth Plan for Moldova and on the impact of external shocks triggered generated by the wars in Ukraine and the Middle East.

On the same day, together with President Maia Sandu and Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu, Commissioner Kos will open the first EU–Moldova Investment Conference. The event will mark one year since the launch of the EU Growth Plan for Moldova and will focus on investments that help strengthen EU–Moldova supply chains and boost the country’s growth potential.

In the evening, the Commissioner will meet representatives of the civil society, in order to discuss their role in shaping Moldova’s EU accession process.

On June 5, together with Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu, Commissioner Kos will open the Moldova Digital Summit 2026, focused on accelerating European integration through innovation.

The official will also meet with Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu, members of the parliamentary commission for European integration and with opposition leaders, in order to discuss maintaining the pace of reforms and ensuring inclusiveness across parliamentary factions.

In addition, together with President Maia Sandu, Commissioner Kos will meet  youth representatives from EU member states and partner countries for an exchange of opinions on the state of democracy in Europe and ways to strengthen its resilience in the face of external threats and challenges.

As part of the visit, the Commissioner will also meet mayors from across Moldova, in order to exchange views on local public administration reform.

The last visit to Chisinau of European Commissioner Marta Kos took place in November, 2025.
