Moldova, Republic of Chad establish diplomatic relations

Moldova and the Republic of Chad have officially established diplomatic relations, following the signing of a joint communiqué by the permanent representatives of the two states to the United Nations. The document was signed at the headquarters of Moldova’s Permanent Mission to the UN in New York on July 17.

The communiqué was signed by Gheorghe Leuca, Moldova’s Permanent Representative to the UN, and Mouctar Abakar, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Chad to the UN. According to Moldova’s Permanent Mission to the UN, the diplomatic relations between the two states enter into force from the date of signature of the document.

The Moldovan authorities specify that the establishment of diplomatic relations aims to strengthen the bilateral cooperation and the develop dialogue in the political, social, economic, cultural, science and innovation fields, for the benefit of both states.

At the same time, Moldova and the Republic of Chad reaffirmed their commitment to develop bilateral relations in accordance with the principles of international law and the Charter of the United Nations, based on sovereign equality, respect for sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity, as well as non-interference with the internal affairs.

At the end of the ceremony, the two ambassadors signed a joint letter addressed to the UN Secretary-General, requesting that the document on the establishment of the diplomatic relations be circulated as an official document of the Organization, for informing all member states.

The establishment of the diplomatic relations with the Republic of Chad is part of Moldova’s efforts to expand the dialogue and cooperation with UN member states and to strengthen international partnerships, based on mutual respect, solidarity and the promotion of peace and sustainable development.

The Republic of Chad has an area of 1.284 million km² and a population of over 21 million. It is located in the center of Africa, bordering Libya (north), Sudan (east), the Central African Republic (south), Cameroon and Nigeria (southwest), and Niger (west). The country’s capital is N’Djamena.
