Moldovan foreign affairs minister in Taormina says Moldova ready for Europe

Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popsoi has participated in an international conference organized, in order to mark the 70th anniversary of the historic Messina Conference.

In his speech, the Moldovan diplomacy head emphasized Moldova's firm commitment to European values and reiterated the authorities' determination to advance on the path to integration into the European Union.

“Moldova is ready to take this step. We have the political will, citizens' support, and firm commitment to deliver results,” Popsoi stated.

The minister highlighted the significance of the Messina Conference of 1955, considering that the spirit of the Messina vision stays relevant and urged for the continuation of the European project with determination and vision.

The conference in Taormina brought together high-ranking European officials, including EU Commissioner Marta Koss, Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, Polish Minister Radosław Sikorski, and his French counterpart for European affairs Benjamin Haddad. They all strongly supported accelerating the process of Moldova's accession to the EU.

European officials said that Moldova's integration was a security imperative and a necessary step for the reunification of the European continent and the country deserves a place in the European family.

During the event, a joint declaration of EU member states was adopted, reaffirming the firm commitment to European integration and the reunification of the entire continent.

In Taormina, Mihai Popsoi had a bilateral meeting with Italian Foreign Affairs Minister Antonio Tajani. The discussions focused on deepening bilateral relations and Italy's support for Moldova's European path.
