Moldovan parliament speaker says security in Black Sea, Balkans also decided by ability to stay united, courageous in face of threats

Security in the Black Sea and in the Balkans is also decided by our ability to stay united, clear‑headed and courageous in the face of threats. Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu today in Bucharest delivered a message to this effect, at the 10th edition of the Black Sea and Balkans Security Forum, organized by the New Strategy Center.

Speaker Igor Grosu took part in the event alongside his counterpart Mircea Abrudean, President of the Senate of Romania.

“I spoke about the reality in which Moldova finds itself: a peaceful state, but subjected every day to a hybrid war waged by the Russian Federation. We see these attacks through disinformation, attempts at political corruption, vote buying and efforts to undermine people’s trust in institutions and in the future of the country,” said Igor Grosu.

In the context, the official stressed that accession to the European Union is the most important national objective.

“It is the way we strengthen our institutions, economy, democracy and our capacity to defend our freedom. The enlargement of the European Union represents an investment in the security of the entire continent, and Moldova is ready to contribute to this security, not just benefit from it,” underlined the parliament speaker.

Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu is paying a visit to Bucharest, where he is participating in the Security Forum of the Black Sea and Balkans region, held on  May 12-13, 2026.
