Moldovan president after EPC Summit says European Union member states reconfirmed support for Moldova's EU accession process
President Maia Sandu, after participating in the European Political Community Summit, has said that Moldova received further confirmations of support on behalf of European Union member states in the accession process.
"The European Union member states have reconfirmed support for our EU accession process. Moldova was appreciated for choosing to stay on the side of peace, for the courage to resist and for the determination to defend democracy in the face of Kremlin's interference at our elections," emphasized the head of state.
According to Maia Sandu, the summit was a new opportunity to discuss with European leaders about strengthening bilateral relations.
"As these relationships strengthen, so does Moldova become stronger," she noted.
President Maia Sandu on October 2 participated in the European Political Community Summit, held in Copenhagen, Denmark, a country that also holds the rotating Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
On the sidelines of the summit, President Maia Sandu hosted a meeting with more partners of Moldova. Attending the event were President of France Emmanuel Macron, President of Romania Nicusor Dan, Prime Minister of Poland Donald Tusk, as well as leaders of European institutions: President of the European Council, António Costa, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen and High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas. The European leaders reaffirmed their firm support for Moldova, its European path and strengthening the economic development.
Also, in Copenhagen, the head of state had bilateral meetings with President of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulides and the President of Lithuania Gitanas Nausėda. The Moldovan president also met Prime Minister of Belgium, Bart De Wever, Prime Minister of Finland Petteri Orpo and Prime Minister of Ireland Micheál Martin. The discussions focused on Moldova's accession to the European Union, economic development and strengthening peace and security on the continent.
President Maia Sandu also had a meeting with the event host, Denmark's Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, during which the officials discussed Moldova’s EU accession process. The head of state also met President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The two leaders discussed the European path, strengthening regional security and restoring sustainable peace in Ukraine. The development of bilateral economic relations was at the center of discussions with President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev.
