MPs held minute of silence in memory of victims of Tighina battles

In the plenary session on 19 June, MPs held a minute of silence in memory of those who lost their lives in the tragic battles of Tighina, which took place 33 years ago, in 1992, during the conflict on the Dniester.

The initiative was introduced in plenary by deputy Boris Marcoci, who reminded that on June 19, at 10:00, under the control and with the involvement of the 14th Army, the city of Tighina was attacked, triggering one of the bloodiest confrontations.

“It was fierce, officers, soldiers and civilians lost their lives. We constantly keep this day as a black day in the history of the Republic of Moldova. I ask for a minute of silence for those who did not return from the battlefield,” he said.

Today we mark 33 years since the battles of Tighina where, during the 1992 Dniester War, the most violent confrontations occurred between Moldovan troops and Transnistrian separatists supported by the Russian army.

It is estimated that as a result of the battles of Tighina, about 200 Moldovan military personnel and civilians lost their lives, and another 300 were injured.
