New local elections held in six localities
On Sunday, November 16, new local elections are taking place in six localities across the country. Citizens are expected at the polling stations to elect mayors, and in some localities, a new composition of the local council.
New local elections are organized in the village of Ustia, Glodeni district, Natalievca commune, Fălești district, Cremenciug commune, Soroca district, the village of Bașcalia, Basarabeasca district, Călinești commune, Fălești district, and the city of Leova, Leova district.
For the mayoral position, 12 candidates have been registered, of which 10 are nominated by political parties, and two are running independently. Three of the candidates are women, and nine are men. Additionally, there are 78 candidates registered for councilor positions in local councils, of which 38 are women and 40 are men. Two individuals are running independently, while 76 are on the lists of four political parties.
Over 22,000 voters are expected at the polling stations. For these elections, 38,975 ballots have been printed, of which 34,397 are in Romanian and 4,578 in Russian.
A voter who, for health reasons or other valid reasons, cannot come to the polling station, can request mobile ballot box voting. On voting day, requests are approved by the electoral office until 2:00 PM, upon presentation of a medical certificate.
The 21 polling stations will be open between 7:00 AM and 9:00 PM. The elections will be monitored by 26 national observers accredited by the Central Electoral Commission.
