Parliament gives up friendship groups with Russia and Belarus

The Foreign Policy Commission of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova has decided to give up the parliamentary friendship groups with the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus during Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine.

Deputy speaker Doina Gherman made the statement today. She emphasized that the decision reflects the firm position of the parliament in defending the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity.

“We strongly believe in the need to maintain friendship groups with states that respect sovereignty, independence and human dignity,” stated Gherman.

The official reiterated that the Republic of Moldova is a “peace-loving” country, with numerous international partners.

Currently, Chișinău parliament has established friendship groups with parliaments from 54 countries, aimed at strengthening dialogue, cooperation and mutual trust between nations.
