President: Russia will attempt to create problems for us, but it cannot stop us as most citizens expressed their choice to join EU
The Russian Federation will continue to try to create problems for us on various fronts, but it cannot stop us because, as we have seen in the referendum and parliamentary elections, the majority of citizens have expressed their choice for the country's EU accession process. This statement was made today by President Maia Sandu during a press conference.
According to the head of state, it is clear that the Russian Federation will not completely give up its actions of intimidation or pressure on the Republic of Moldova.
“I believe that, in these elections, the people have convincingly demonstrated that we are brave, with dignity. Moldova is a small but strong country, and only in this way can we defend our sovereignty, our independence, and the choice made by our citizens. We are vigilant, we are aware that we must continue to strengthen the capacity of state institutions, as well as the resilience of society. The trials we have gone through have made us stronger,” said Maia Sandu.
The official mentioned that, to stop the Republic of Moldova from its European path, the most important tools of the Kremlin have been the referendum and parliamentary elections.
“We have managed to withstand these two important tests. The Russian Federation will continue to try to create problems for us on various fronts, but it cannot stop us because, as we have seen, in the referendum and parliamentary elections, the majority of citizens have expressed their choice for the EU accession process. It is our decision, it is not Russia's business, so everyone minds their own business,” stated Maia Sandu.
During the period and the electoral campaign of the parliamentary elections, state authorities repeatedly reported Russia's interference in the internal processes of the Republic of Moldova. This includes organizing paid protests, attempts to bribe voters, and destabilizing actions.
