Speaker awarded Democracy Medal to North Carolina Secretary of State

Speaker Igor Grosu held a meeting with North Carolina Secretary of State Elaine Marshall. During the meeting, the American official was awarded the Democracy Medal.

Igor Grosu emphasized that the partnership between the Republic of Moldova and the U.S. state of North Carolina, built over 27 years, has delivered concrete results for citizens. These include investments in renovated schools, kindergartens, and hospitals, support for families, as well as projects in areas such as agriculture, education, and security.

“I was pleased to meet again with Elaine Marshall, the Secretary of State of North Carolina and a true friend of the Republic of Moldova,” the speaker said.

He noted that the distinction represents a gesture of appreciation for her contribution to strengthening bilateral relations and for the constant support given to the Republic of Moldova over the years.

“As a sign of appreciation for her remarkable contribution to strengthening this partnership, I had the honor to award Ms. Marshall the Democracy Medal. It is a gesture of gratitude for sincere, constant, and highly valuable support for our country,” Grosu concluded.

The Democracy Medal is the highest distinction of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova, established to recognize outstanding merits in promoting reforms, developing the rule of law, and consolidating democratic values. It is awarded to officials, cultural figures, or individuals who contribute to the development of cooperative relations.
