Speaker shares details on Washington talks: They were very good
Upon returning from his working visit to Washington (USA), Speaker Igor Grosu described the discussions with American partners as very good. The Moldovan delegation held meetings at the US Senate, Congress, and the State Department. According to Igor Grosu, discussions covered cooperation issues between Moldova and the USA in the energy and humanitarian sectors.
“We discussed our projects in the energy sector, state border management, cybersecurity, and humanitarian projects, referring to our partnerships with the state of North Carolina. Overall, the reactions were positive, and we were able to present the situation in the region, including security issues related to Transnistria,” he stated.
The official said that American officials are aware of developments in the region and described the discussions as very good. Additionally, Grosu mentioned that American officials congratulated them on the outcome of the parliamentary elections in September.
“All the discussions we had, both in the Senate, Congress, and the State Department were very good. First, they congratulated us on the very good result in the parliamentary elections, a great appreciation for the citizens of the Republic of Moldova, showing that in this part of Europe, Moldova has managed to maintain peace and stability,” he concluded.
On December 2-10, the Speaker paid a working visit to the United States of America. The agenda included discussions with officials as well as with Moldovans residing in Washington, Chicago, and the state of North Carolina.
Igor Grosu spoke about the authorities' efforts to build energy independence, increase defense capacities, and combat misinformation. The continuous support of partners, such as the United States, on Moldova's path to a true democracy is very important, appreciated Grosu.
In September, the US Government announced it would fund the construction of Strășeni–Gutinaș power line with 130 million dollars. The 400 kV power line will ensure a direct connection between the Republic of Moldova, Romania, and the European power grid, marking a strategic step towards reducing dependence on the East. The completion of Strășeni–Gutinaș line is estimated for 2028 and includes the modernization of the Strășeni 330 kV station by adding a 400 kV section. The line will cross 25 localities in the Strășeni, Călărași, Nisporeni and Hîncești districts.
