PHOTO // Moldovan parliament speaker in Ljubljana says Slovenia’s experience on road to EU valuable lesson for Moldova

Slovenia’s experience in the process of joining the European Union is valuable for Moldova, while the country’s support for Moldova’s European path is important on the current period of reforms. Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu has made statements to this effect during a working visit to Slovenia.

Igor Grosu had meetings with President of the National Assembly of Slovenia, Zoran Stevanović, and with the Deputy Speaker of the Slovenian Parliament, Danijel Krivec. The discussions focused on Moldova’s European path, progress in the accession process, the role of parliaments in promoting reforms and interparliamentary cooperation.





During the meeting with Zoran Stevanović, the Moldovan parliament speaker  noted that this autumn was an important one for Moldova’s European integration agenda.

“This autumn is a very important period for us: we are set to adopt around 200 drafts that will bring us even closer to European standards and to our goal of becoming a member state of the European Union,” Igor Grosu said.

    



The Moldovan speaker emphasized that Slovenia’s experience could be useful to Moldova in the process of transforming its institutions and implementing the reforms required for EU accession.

“Slovenia’s experience is valuable for Moldova. Slovenia used the prospect of accession to carry out reforms, modernize its institutions and integrate rapidly and successfully into the European Union. Slovenia’s support for our European path matters all the more, because it comes from a country that knows from its own experience how much EU accession can transform a small country with great ambitions,” the Moldovan parliament speaker said.

During his discussion with Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of Slovenia Danijel Krivec, Igor Grosu also addressed the role of parliaments in the accession process and the strengthening of cooperation between the legislative institutions of the two countries.





Igor Grosu thanked Slovenia for its constant support for Moldova and its European path. The parliament speaker signed the Slovenian Parliament’s Book of Honor, leaving the following message:

“It is a great pleasure to be in the Slovenian Parliament today, in a country that has always been close to Moldova. I thank Slovenia for its friendship and for its support for our European path.”





The Moldovan speaker is paying working visits to Slovenia and Hungary. The agenda includes meetings with senior officials from the two countries, focusing on strengthening bilateral relations and interparliamentary cooperation, as well as supporting Moldova’s advancement in the European integration process.
