VIDEO // News from Brussels on starting preparations for Cluster I in accession negotiations of Moldova to European Union applauded in Parliament
The news received last night from Brussels regarding the start of preparations for the official opening of Cluster I within the accession negotiations of the Republic of Moldova to the European Union was greeted today with applause from members of Parliament in the plenary.
The Chair of the Parliamentary Committee for European Integration, Marcel Spătari delivered a speech in which he stated that this stage represents an essential moment in the European path of the Republic of Moldova and marks the advancement of accession negotiations.
“In this month, the Council of the European Union will finalize preparations for the official opening of Cluster I – ‘Fundamental Values’. This is an important stage in the negotiation process for the accession of the Republic of Moldova to the European Union,” Spătari said.
He explained that, after the completion of these preparations, important procedural steps will follow at the level of European institutions.
“This group of chapters includes the necessary reforms in areas such as the rule of law, the functioning of democratic institutions, public administration reform, justice, fundamental rights, the fight against corruption, financial control, and the state’s capacity to apply European rules. For the Republic of Moldova, this decision marks the transition to an important stage in the accession process. This month, the Council of the European Union will finalize the preparations for the official opening of Cluster I. This implies finalizing the European Union’s common position and convening the accession conference. After the formal opening of the cluster, negotiation benchmarks will be set, which will indicate the results that must be achieved in order to advance the negotiations. In parallel, we are preparing for the opening of the other negotiation clusters,” the Committee Chair noted.
He added that this stage will require sustained effort from national institutions and good coordination between Parliament, Government, and the structures responsible for European integration.
“It is a stage that requires discipline, coordination, and concrete results from all institutions involved in the accession process,” Marcel Spătari further said.
The official also welcomed the support of European partners and underlined the importance of the moment for the European path of the Republic of Moldova.
