Food poisoning among some Foreign Ministry employees after diplomatic reception in Chișinău
Several employees of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs who took part in a reception organized by the State of Israel at a hotel in the capital showed symptoms of food poisoning and requested medical assistance. The information was confirmed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), which states that the situation is being monitored and the condition of the other participants is satisfactory.
"Several employees of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs who were present at the event showed symptoms of intoxication and requested medical assistance. The other colleagues who participated are fine," the ministry press release reads.
The institution also notes that Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popșoi attended the reception, but did not consume food products during the event and was not affected.
On the other hand, the National Agency for Public Health (ANSP) announced that seven people have been confirmed with an infection caused by the Salmonella Enteritidis bacteria, following an outbreak of foodborne illness recorded among participants at several events organized between 22–26 June 2026 at a hotel in the municipality of Chișinău.
According to ANSP, a total of 26 people were affected, and other biological samples are still being examined. Specialists from the institution, together with representatives of the Chișinău Public Health Center and the authorities responsible for food safety, are conducting an epidemiological investigation and implementing measures to limit the spread of the infection.
