Moldovan president after Eurovision: “We should not allow anyone or anything to affect the relationship between Romania and Moldova”
President Maia Sandu today reacted to the situation regarding the votes given by the jury of Moldova to Romania’s representative at Eurovision. The head of state emphasized that “we should not allow anyone or anything to affect the relationship between the two countries” and that “it is important that the people of Moldova gave the highest appreciation to the Romanian singers.”
“I believe we should not allow anything or anyone to affect the relationship between the two countries and I truly believe that it is important that the people of Moldova gave the highest appreciation to the Romanian singers. This is the most important part. And congratulations to both Alexandra and Vlad!” said Maia Sandu.
On May 16, the grand final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2026 took place in Vienna. The jury from Moldova awarded only three points to Romania’s representative, Alexandra Capitanescu, who ranked third in the competition, while the Moldovan public gave her the maximum score. The situation triggered a wave of reactions and criticism in the public sphere and, as a result, Director General of the Teleradio-Moldova Company Vlad Turcanu announced his resignation.
