Leaders of the customs and border authorities of Moldova and Romania today met at the Leuseni–Albita border crossing point. The meeting was dedicated to assessing operational activities at the common border, in the context of applying the coordinated control mechanism at the most transited Moldovan-Romanian customs border post, as well as identifying the most effective solutions to streamline cross-border traffic.
According to the Customs Service, the participants evaluated the measures applied during the summer season, a period characterized by an intense flow of travelers and means of transport and agreed on joint actions aimed at reducing waiting times and ensuring a faster and more efficient border crossing process.
An important topic of the meeting was the extension of the implementation period of the Agreement between the government of Moldova and the government of Romania on coordinated control carried out on the territory of Romania at the Leuseni–Albita crossing point. Thus, the period of application of the coordinated control mechanism is to be extended from six months to one year, providing continuity for a model of cooperation that has proven effective in optimizing border-crossing control.
The customs and border authorities of Moldova and Romania reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining close and active cooperation, aimed at developing joint solutions for more efficient control and faster border crossing, for the benefit of all participants in cross-border traffic.
