Train accident in Spain; Moldova's Foreign Affairs Ministry checks whether Moldovan citizens are among victims
The Foreign Affairs Ministry (MAE) is monitoring the situation following the train accident that occurred near the town of Urda, in Spain’s Toledo province, and is checking whether Moldovan citizens are among affected people.
According to the MAE, the diplomatic mission is in contact with the competent Spanish authorities.
“So far, the Embassy of Moldova in Madrid has not received any requests for consular assistance in connection with this incident. Rescue and medical assistance operations are ongoing,” the institution said.
The MAE emphasized that it would provide further information as soon as it is confirmed by the competent authorities.
Two high-speed trains collided in Spain today morning. The accident involved an AVE high-speed train that had departed from Madrid for Seville and an Iryo train traveling in the opposite direction. At least 39 people died and dozens more were injured in the crash. The accident led to the suspension of rail traffic on the line connecting Madrid with the Andalusia region in the south of the country.
