World Bank provides Moldova with 30 million euros for universities' modernization
Moldova will receive additional financial support on behalf of the World Bank for the modernization of the higher education system. The parliament ratified the additional financing agreement, which includes a loan of 30 million euros and a grant of 8.47 million dollars.
The new financial package, provided through the International Development Association, will allow the expansion of the ongoing project.
The new components include strengthening the capacity of higher education institutions, equipping them with modern research laboratories, renovating student dormitories and creating an innovation center in agriculture and food safety, focused on adapting to climate change.
At the same time, the project aims to internationalize higher education by attracting foreign students, including refugees.
The parliament also ratified an amendment to the initial financing agreement, extending the project's implementation period until December 31, 2029, ensuring a stable legal framework for achieving all goals.
The loan agreement was signed on June 2, 2025, with the funds to be disbursed in stages over the coming years.
