Moldova women’s team wins first-ever European beach rugby championship
Moldova women’s team has won for the first time the European beach rugby championship title at the tournament held for the third year in a row in Chișinău. At the same time, the men’s national team of the Republic of Moldova became European vice-champions.
The tricolors delivered an outstanding performance, defeating Poland 7–4 in the grand final. The team coached by Ion Cebotari dominated the group stage, securing three consecutive victories. Moldova beat Greece 13–0, Estonia 10–2, and Bulgaria 12–1, advancing comfortably to the final phase.
The men’s national team of the Republic of Moldova also reached the podium. Haiducii became European vice-champions after losing the final to Ukraine, 5–7. In the group stage, Moldova defeated Greece 14–0, Bulgaria 15–0, and Ukraine 5–3.
The European Beach Rugby Championship was held in Chișinău on 22 - 23 August and is one of the most important continental competitions in the discipline.
Over two days, eight men’s teams and eight women’s teams competed for the European titles. At the previous edition of the European Championship, also organized in Chișinău, the men’s national team won silver medals, while the women’s team took bronze.
