Chisinau, 1 February /MOLDPRES/ - About 80 per cent of Moldova’s residents will soon be able to receive the terrestrial digital TV signal. This will become possible after the launch of the first national multiplex (A), with a capacity to broadcast up to 15 TV channels.

According to the Information Technology and Communications Ministry, the digital television will be able to be received without subscription, via antenna, in most Moldovan districts. The signal will have mobile reception of a larger number of TV channels with a better quality of the image and sound, with possibility to receive HD channels free of charge.

A report of the inter-institutional working group on the carrying out of the programme on transition from the analog television to the terrestrial digital TV for the second quarter of 2015 says that licences on the use of frequencies/TV channels have been issued to the state enterprise “Radiocomunicatii” (Radiocommunications) for the creation of two multiplexes with national coverage.

The first multiplex (A) has already capacity to cover more regions of Moldova with the terrestrial digital TV signal. Actions for modernising the infrastructure were carried out for this, including 17 transmitters were set at the stations from Edinet, Soroca, Trifesti, Mindrestii Noi, Ungheni, Ivancea, Straseni, Hincesti, Chisinau, Causeni, Cimislia, Leova, Comrat, Cahul, Baimaclia, Drochia and Tighina.

On 28 January, the Audiovisual Coordination Council announced a public tender for filling the available capacities in the national multiplex (A), that will be able to broadcast up to 15 TV channels.

The second national multiplex is still at the stage of elaboration.
